Dan Wells' website
Expected publication date:  February 26, 2013
Amazon | Book Depository | Goodreads

Description (taken from Goodreads):
Kira Walker has found the cure for RM, but the battle for the survival of humans and Partials is only just beginning. Kira has left East Meadow in a desperate search for clues as to who she is. That the Partials themselves hold the cure for RM in their blood cannot be a coincidence—it must be part of a larger plan, a plan that Kira knows she is a part of, a plan that could save both races. Her allies are Afa Demoux, an unhinged drifter and former employee of ParaGen, and Samm and Heron, the Partials who betrayed her and saved her life, the only ones who know her secret. But can she trust them?

Meanwhile, back on Long Island, what’s left of humanity is gearing up for war with the Partials, and Marcus knows his only hope is to delay them until Kira returns. But Kira’s journey will take her deep into the overgrown wasteland of postapocalyptic America, and they will both discover that their greatest enemy may be one they didn’t even know existed.

As much as the first book made me think of Utah, I very much enjoyed it.  And I think I'm going to look forward to this next one.

Forbidden by Jacquelyn Frank

Genre:  Adult Paranormal Romance
World of Nightwalkers, Book 1
Expected publication date:  October 30, 2012

Description (taken from Jacquelyn Frank's website):
The unexpected happens in an instant. On her way to work, secretary Docia Waverley hurtles into a crashing crossroads, and she quickly begins to suspect that things will never be the same. Then, when a tall, blond, muscular stranger intervenes on her behalf, telling her it is his duty to protect her at all cost, what is just a feeling turns to proof positive. That is, as long as Docia’s savior doesn’t turn out to be a crazed kidnapper.

When Ram finds Docia, he has no doubt that she is his queen. But as this golden warrior sweeps in to protect her, he feels something more than body heat every time they touch. He is overwhelmed by a searing connection that goes deep into the twin souls inside him. A desire rises in him that is forbidden—this woman is his queen, the mate of his king, his leader, his best friend. And yet Docia is so vulnerable and attractive that she awakens a hunger in Ram that is undeniable, a carnal craving he cannot yield to . . . not without risking the very survival of the Bodywalkers.

I have to first start out with this is the first book by Jacquelyn Frank that I have read.  I have not read her Nightwalkers series.  In fact, I'm still a little confused as to what that term refers to exactly.  And secondly, I accidentally ruined the book (or was unable to figure it out on my own) by reading the description of the second novel in the series.  Bummer, I know...

Bodywalkers, anybody?  A very interesting supernatural creature that I think is quite unique in the writing world nowadays.  To keep it blunt, bodywalkers are Egyptians cursed to walk the world every thousand years in a host's body.  In essence, you have two individuals living in one body.  Reminds me of some of the other sci-fi reads, right?  But it's totally different from other books.

As to the story between Ram and Docia.  Meh, I wasn't too impressed with their story.  In fact, I was more interested in Docia's brother's story.  Jackson appealed to me a lot more than Ram.  Plus, the lumping around from different character's point of views threw me off initially.  But still, this was a great supernatural romance read.

As to continuing this series, I most likely will since the second book continues on with Jackson's story.  I might also read the Nightwalkers series as well.  For being a first intro to Jacquelyn Frank's books, this was an alright read.  And now I'm expecting it'll be an easier transition into her next few books that I read.

Thanks goes to Random House Publishing Group and Netgalley for providing me a review copy.

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly post hosted by Breaking the Spine, and it spotlights upcoming books that we as readers are anxiously awaiting...

Breaking Point by Kristen Simmons
Article 5 Series, Book 2
Kristen Simmons' website
Expected publication date:  February 5, 2013
Amazon | Book Depository | Goodreads

Note:  The description below has spoiler alerts.  If you haven't read the first book, I suggest you go read it!

Description (taken from Goodreads):
After faking their deaths to escape from prison, Ember Miller and Chase Jennings have only one goal: to lay low until the Federal Bureau of Reformation forgets they ever existed.

Near-celebrities now for the increasingly sensationalized tales of their struggles with the government, Ember and Chase are recognized and taken in by the Resistance—an underground organization working to systematically take down the government. At headquarters, all eyes are on the sniper, an anonymous assassin taking out FBR soldiers one by one. Rumors are flying about the sniper’s true identity, and Ember and Chase welcome the diversion….

Until the government posts its most-wanted list, and their number one suspect is Ember herself.

Orders are shoot to kill, and soldiers are cleared to fire on suspicion alone. Suddenly Ember can’t even step onto the street without fear of being recognized, and “laying low” is a joke. Even members of the Resistance are starting to look at her sideways.

With Chase urging her to run, Ember must decide: Go into hiding…or fight back?

So the first book was a major love story that I wasn't expecting.  But despite that, the book really held me captivated, and I need to know what happens next.

Top Ten Books To Get In The Halloween Spirit

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week's post is Top Ten Books To Get In The Halloween Spirit.

Pfff...  I totally picked the wrong week to pick up on my top ten posts.  You can definitely say I'm not much of a Halloween enthusiast.  And I think I've only read one Halloween-related novel.  So here goes nothing.

On All Hallow's Eve by Grace Chetwin
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle
Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer

The first book is probably the only Halloween-related book I've ever read, and I read it in elementary school.  So don't ask me what it was about.  The second is here because I dressed up as Meg for Halloween once.  And Twilight?  Honestly, the movies ruined the books for me even though I read them way before they came out and the books became popular.  And I think Halloween gets me off the hook for accidentally insulting someone when I laugh at them for dressing like a sparkly vampire or hunky bicep werewolf.

Black City by Elizabeth Richards
Bloodlines by Richelle Mead
Glass Houses by Rachel Caine
The Hunt by Andrew Fukuda

Vampires?!  Sure, why not.  Although if anyone shows up at my door dressed as Adrian Ivashkov, I can not be held responsible for my actions...

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa
Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood
The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan

Can't forget the witches and zombies either.  By the way, did I mention that I've lately become addicted to The Vampire Diaries tv show?
